Wide application of amorphous core in domestic high-power welding machines

2025-04-21

At present, the proportion of amorphous coresused in domestic high-power welding machines is very high, while most foreign companies still use ferrite cores. At the commonly used 20kHz inverter frequency, Amorphous Cores have a more obvious material cost advantage than ferrite cores. However, due to the limitations of material properties, amorphous cores can only be supplied in a ring form, which is not conducive to the automatic winding of coils. Therefore, most foreign companies still choose to use ferrite cores and are unwilling to switch toamorphous cores; while domestic companies, due to material cost considerations, widely use amorphous cores.

In foreign countries, the soft switching power supply technology in inverter welding machines is not very popular, especially in 20kHz inverter welding machines, most of which are still dominated by hard switches. However, the capacity margin of the switching devices used in foreign welding machines is much greater than that of domestic welding machines, which ensures the high reliability of the inverter power supply. This is mainly determined by different labor costs. Since the soft switching circuit requires additional electromagnetic components, its manufacturing and assembly costs often exceed the material costs of increasing the capacity of the switching devices in areas with high labor costs. In foreign countries, amorphous cores are mainly used in high-frequency high-power welding machines operating at 60-120kHz. Its main purpose is to increase the response speed of the power supply in order to achieve more precise waveform control.
